Foot Exercises that Relieve Pain

Foot pain is an extremely common malady, and has many different causes, the most common of which has to do with standing for long periods of time without reprieve. Women in particular are victims of foot pain because they often wear unforgiving shoes and must stand in them for extended periods. This article explores some very effective exercises which are designed to relieve foot pain and leave the feet stronger and more resilient than ever.

The first exercise worth mentioning is called the towel stretch, and as the name suggests it requires nothing more than a towel. Take the towel and pull it around the bottom of your foot, holding onto either end of the towel in each hand. Now slowly pull the towel towards yourself but don't let the towel move your leg, keep your knee straight to provide the resistance. Hold the stretch for as long as possible and then repeat about five times on each foot.

An extremely simple exercise you can try is called the drop foot exercise. All you need to do is stand next to a wall and lift one of your feet as pull the foot up and point your toes at yourself, as though you're going to touch your toes to your shin. You should feel a burning stretch as you attempt to do this, simply hold the position for as long as you can and then slowly come back down before repeating about ten times on either foot. Do this exercise three times a day if possible.

This next exercise also uses a towel as its sole piece of equipment, and is particularly beneficial for those of you who have very flat feet. People with flat feet

are often the victim of constant foot pain and also commonly have a tendency to trip often on top of it all. The towel roll is an exercise designed specifically for the flat footed, and requires sitting in a chair with your feet firmly on the ground, knees bent at ninety degrees. Now take a towel and put both your feet on top of it, then try to grab the towel with your toes and roll it away from you. This ingenious exercise actually works five different muscles in your foot and will give you great stability and even promote a functional arch to your feet. Try to use a fairly thick towel to make the exercise as effective as possible.

Doing regular foot exercises can save you a great deal of stress and strain later. Giving your feet the stretching and strengthening they need will prevent future pain and suffering. So don't forget to treat your feet to a good workout now and then.
