Low Fat Diet Plan:
I'm not an athlete, but a few years ago I decided I would jog a mile every day. After many months I finally worked up to the mile. I was no Roger Bannister or even a Glenn Cunningham. I did my mile in about ten minutes. For me this was quite an accomplishment. However, I never saw any weight reduction that I could attribute to the running.

Many people worry that exercise will increase their appetite. I find (and many others with whom I've spoken agree) the opposite is true. I recently took up horseback riding. It involves a great deal more exertion than I had anticipated. I enjoy it more than any exercise I've ever done. I am so exhilarated at the end of a riding lesson that I literally have no appetite. It's as if the challenge and excitement have filled me up. Frequently, I use that feeling after the lesson to skip a meal.
After analyzing this reaction I came to the conclusion that part of the fulfillment is from being totally involved. Ironically, there just are too few times when we food-oriented people find ourselves in that position.
So much in our daily lives revolves around food. We meet for dinner, discuss business at lunch, socialize over cocktails. It's downright antisocial to suggest to friends that we simply want to meet and share their company, without involving food or drink.
Try to change the focus in your life away from food. It would be easier to resist eating unnecessary calories if they weren't there in the first place.
As for becoming totally involved, if you think about the way you spend your time, you'll find too few moments when you are so immersed in doing something that you aren't planning your next snack break.
Wouldn't it be interesting to consider those moments when you are so occupied. Then you can start planning to increase the time you spend productively in nonfood pursuits so you can increase their frequency.
When Lyle Stuart was on his protein-sparing fast he was amazed by how much free time he had since he
wasn't spending any time eating. I'm not suggesting you give up eating, but try to think of things you enjoy doing and try to do more of them. You may find you spend less time eating, too.
If exercise is something you enjoy, get more involved in it. But, go easy. If you ordinarily do little more than lift yourself from your chair to change the station on the television tube (and alas, most new sets don't even require that: you lie there like a lump and push buttons) get a medical checkup before you begin jogging several miles a day.
Before you begin any strenuous exercise program you must make sure your body can handle it. Certainly, if you are carrying around a great deal of excess weight you especially want to make certain any change in your physical activity won't overtax your body.
If you want to exercise but believe you can't find the time, or place, try jogging in place in front of the television set. Or, do ten jumping jacks while you're waiting for the elevator to reach your floor. (Make sure you're alone!) Try dancing around the house. All of these activities not only get your body moving, but act as anti-depressants. They are good methods of letting out emotions that are bottled up within us.

There is one form of exercise everyone can do. And before belittling the benefits, remember, it is better than nothing at all and requires little or no preparation. And don't forget, it's time spent away from food!
The exercise I refer to is walking.
You'd be surprised at how few people there are who walk. Or maybe you wouldn't be surprised. Begin by walking a few minutes each day perhaps instead of driving to one destination. A side benefit of walking is that you will find yourself examining your surroundings more carefully than you probably have in years.
If you really get into it, you might find yourself working up to walking an energetic mile daily. (That's only four times around a quarter-mile high school track.) Even if you don't change your food consumption, it could result in dropping 10 pounds in a year.
