Registration: Every school has its own calendar for parents to register prior to the admission process. Registration forms are sold at a fee at the school counter usually in the month of December or January. For example:

Admission into class 1 is given on the basis of points where different schools allot different points to children who qualify. Points are awarded on the following basis: Merit, Sibling case, Parents have been alumni, neighborhood candidates and staff child. This is usually followed by an Admission test conducted on the level of the class proceeding the one to which admission is being sought applicable for classes and a merit list is prepared for each category followed by a face to face interview with the parents and the child. Government schools like the Kendriya Vidyala and Military schools have another category which is meant for children with parents on transfer. Most schools declare the first and second admission list usually by February. The majority of schools have laid down the rule that the child must be 5 years as on 30th Sept in the academic year for which admission is being sought as the eligibility criterion.
