Values can have a big effect on the various parts of your life. The basis upon which you make decisions, whether very silly or very important, depends on the values you possess. When your decisions are consistent with your value system, you feel satisfied and content. On the other hand, when you do something that is contrary to what you believe in, you tend to become restless and uneasy.

Values become our directional compass in life and the force that drives us

A person's values reveal what is important. Personal values become an essential driving force in a person's life and may serve as a road map when performing his daily activities. As one example, if your priorities include allegiance to members of your immediate family and other kin, then your choices will be influenced toward acting in their best interest. His familial concern greatly influences his life choices. It is also the same in the case of organizations. The decisions of the management and employees as well as their attitude towards work must be based on the company's value system.

Values influence how other people perceive you

How strong your value system is becomes evident in the way in which you behave, interact with people and in the decisions you make. Your values will make a definite impression on other people. Whether our values are good or bad determines the impressions of our families, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

Values help make you into a conscious and purposeful being

Without values we will all function like robots, unfeeling and insensitive to other things beyond our own basic needs. We will not value truths or hold anything meaningful in life, nor will we strive to put purpose and meaning to our existence. Your values give color and meaning to your life and define you as a human being. They make you different from non-living things. A sense of purpose, as well as responsibility and effective inter-personal relationships are all things that are gained from one's values.

Personal values are a crucial part of one's life even though they can't be touched. This causes many to devote their lives or become a martyr for values important to them.
