Laser skin resurfacing involves the application of laser light on the skin to remove fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. The entire procedure takes between 30 minutes to two hours to perform, depending on the number of areas to be treated. Undergoing treatment with an inexperienced surgeon can increase your risks of developing post-treatment side effects and complications. Common side effects of this procedure include redness, irritation, swelling, and burning sensation in the treatment area. These side effects usually dissipate after a few days. In exceptional cases, scarring, discoloration, infection, and change in pigmentation can occur. After the laser skin resurfacing procedure it takes approximately two weeks for the skin to heal and look normal again. If the pinkness or redness lasts for a longer time, it is best to consult a dermatologist.

For most laser skin patients, all skin imperfections and blemishes disappear from the skin's surface in a matter of few weeks. Talk to your skin doctor to find out if you are a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing, or if another procedure is right for you.
