3. St Peter's Basilica - referred to by many as the home of Roman Catholicism, St Peter's Basilica was constructed in 1626 and stands upon a site where a church has been in place since the 4th century.

Extensively and intricately decorated both internally and externally, St Peter's Basilica is an absolute must for anyone visiting Rome, irrelevant of whether you're a Roman Catholic or not.

4. Trevi Fountain - relatively new compared to some of the city's other attractions, construction of the Trevi Fountain was complete in 1762 and remains today as one of the world's most recognisable fountains.

Due to the tradition of throwing coins into the fountain for good luck, there is approximately 3,000 Euros thrown into the Trevi Fountain each day, all of which are used to help fund a supermarket for the city's less fortunate residents.
