Is your new TV going to serve its purpose as a home theater movie screen for movies and friends to partake? Is it going to mainly be used for video games? The picture on some types of flat screen TVs can be interfered with depending on how well lit your room is. Similarly, if you have less lighting your room, you might have a different preference. Plasma and DLP televisions can have some reflection problems if your room is very well lit (though generally plasmas don't have most of the problems we hear about anymore), whereas LCD screens are always very well lit, and have different matted screens that prevent any glare from the lighting in your room. Most high definition televisions should really suit whatever needs you may have regarding the lighting in your room, but to really maximize your purchase, this is also a very important factor that should be heavily taken into account.

As a general rule, flat screen, high definition televisions are all pretty great purchases, but these four things can really make or break a new television purchase. If you keep these four things in mind as you head towards the purchase of your new flat screen, you definitely won't be disappointed with the TV you end up with.
