Four Ways For New Moms To Ease The Stress Of That First Day Of Day Care

That first anxious day will come for every parent when they must drop off their little darling at a day care center

. Your cute, cuddly infant is a grown up toddler now with many definite ideas of his own. One of those ideas is that there is no way he is going to leave you and walk through that door that leads to his day care center - absolutely no way.

Your brain tells you that all will be well once he settles in. In a few weeks, the routine will be set and he will look forward to seeing his new friends. Until that day comes, here are four tips to ease your pain a little on that dreaded first day.

Tip 1: Pack the diaper bag the night before.

You are going to be stressing over whether your toddler has all the stuff he needs to get through his first frightening day. To relieve your stress and his, pack his favorite stuffed critter, his blue bankie and the go-to teething ring the night before so you won't spend the day worrying about it and he can spend the day with his necessities.

Tip 2: Thoroughly interview your child's teacher and the day care administrator(s) prior to enrolling your toddler.

Do not just pick the nearest day care center to your work or home even if it comes highly recommended. You must interview the staff.

Big mistake. Take the time to get to know your child's teachers before they walk through those doors. Just because someone else recommends them highly, does not mean that they have the same standards as you do.

Tip 3: If you're enrolling your child in an institution, choose one that has a consistent reputation for success

You may be new in town and find that there is a wide selection of day care enters to choose from. Under closer inspection, however, you find that just a couple of them have a reputation of being consistently outstanding. Most of them will be iffy.

Tip 4: Spend quality time together the night before the first day care stay and the night after.

Unless you've had friends or family watching them for you up to now, your child's first day of daycare is probably going to coincide perfectly with your first day of work. You're both going to be tired. You're both going to be stressed. You're both going to need to spend a little one-on-one time with each other. Don't be afraid to forget the laundry, order a pizza, and just enjoy. You deserve it.
