From Banner Stands To Integrated Multimedia: Exploring The Many Types Of Trade Show Booths

In the time since the first official convention was held

, the technology that drives exhibits has greatly increased. Now there is almost unlimited variety, and companies are constantly unveiling new innovations. It's hard for anyone, particularly if new to the field, to understand all of these designs and pick the right one for their needs. It takes skill and experience to know what's best, and those both come only with time. Although having a talk with your design company will help, you need to understand the variety yourself in order to start thinking about what is ideal for your company at the conventions you've chosen.

Tabletop Trade Show Booths

Style: This design is one of the most basic. The typical tabletop unit has three panels one each in the center, to the left, and to the right. It may have a headliner on top, or it may not; that depends on the manufacturer and the style. These exhibits will be fairly short, as they are designed to be placed on a table or on top of another stand, not sit on the floor.

Pros: They are inexpensive, and they're almost always a good investment. They are easy to store, easy to carry, and easy to maintain. They look great in a small space.

Cons: They may not be versatile. They can't be used on their own without a supporting table or other unit.

The Banner Stand

Style: A banner stand is a piece of fabric or plastic that is strung between a hook on the top and hook on the bottom, creating a vertical display space. The dimensions of a banner stand can vary widely depending on what your company wants, but they can be anywhere from one to four feet wide, or even more. Some banner stand designs allow multiple banner stands to be placed alongside each other, creating a cohesive display that can often compete with large freestanding trade show booths.

Pros: Unmatched versatility. A good banner stand can be used almost anywhere, and will never become obsolete. They are also uniquely easy to change, as you can simply get the banner portion reprinted. They are also very inexpensive.

Cons: A single banner stand is not a very effective exhibit. You typically need more than one to make a strong impression.

The Freestanding Display

Style: This is your typical exhibit, placed on the floor and full size. There are many different varieties, ranging from inexpensive fold-out styles to more pricey pop up options and reinforced units with built-in monitors, projection screens, and product displays. This category has by far the largest number of sub-categories. With proper customization and an open-minded designer, a freestanding display can be almost anything.

Pros: An unmatched ability to customize. Almost anything is possible with a freestanding display; your main limitation is your imagination. These full size trade show booths also tend to be a dominating convention presence, leaving a strong impression on visitors. Finally, they can be used to display products, or to directly promote your product through the use of monitors and other multimedia. Other trade show booths don't have the structure to permit that.

Cons: One of the more expensive styles. Because they are larger, they require more raw materials to make. They can also be difficult to update depending on the style you choose

Pop Up Units

Style: Pop up units come in many forms; there table top pop up displays as well as free-standing pop up displays. Also, pop-ups can feature printed fabric or versatile hook and loop fabric that allows you to change the information displays in a heartbeat. A pop up exhibit features fabric stretched across a frame, giving it a very substantial appearance.

Pros: Very easy to carry, even more portable than a typical tabletop unit. Also very adaptable and customizable.

Cons: Some pop-ups can be heavy, and some can be pricey, but there is such a wide variety of pop-ups that almost anyone could find a pop-up display that meets their needs.

Making The Call For Your Company

The perfect display for your company will meet your budget needs while offering a strong presentation at your target conventions. Look at the pros and cons listed above, and use them as a starting point to determine what your company might want. If budget is an issue, look at a banner stand and consider using them to construct your exhibit. If you're more interested in making a big splash, customized trade show booths are the way to go. It's a question of prioritizing what matters most, and then talking with your local design company to make it happen.
