Fuel Storage For Butane Lighters

If you have a refillable butane lighter, regardless of the model

, then having a store of butane on hand is very important. Without it, you might find yourself forced to purchase one of those cheap disposable lighters when you had the chance, but have no way to light your cigar or pipe in the meantime.

For cigar and pipe smokers alike, butane is the preferred type of lighter because it imparts no fowl taste or odors on the tobacco. It is for this very reason that seasoned smokers are sure to have additional butane on hand so that they can have the most enjoyable smoking experience possible.

So, what is the proper way to store butane for your refillable lighter? Storing butane fuel simply requires a few precautions and common sense. You'll find that there is a wide variety of brands and canister sizes of butane and, by law, these containers have to include instructions regarding storing and using the fuel on the canister label. Butane fuel comes in a container that is pressurized. As long as you follow the instructions on the label, you can ensure that you do not have accidents and that you keep the fuel safely on hand.

Proper storage is the first element in butane safety. Keep it in a safe place at home that is out of any children's reach. Many containers can withstand even high temperatures. Even if you live in a climate that is rather warm, your butane should still store well. Generally, excercising the same methods of storing your butane that you use for storing your lighter are best. As an example, do no place the butane canister in direct sunlight. This can actually cause the temperature of the canister to reach undesirable levels. Rather, find a dry and cool place, out of the direct sunlight and away from any other sources of extreme heat.

Don't ever keep your butane container in your vehicle. Temperatures inside of a car or truck on hot, sunny days can climb to very high levels. The home is always the safest choice for storing your butane as it is more safe from the extreme temperatures of a garage or car. Also, be sure that the tip of the canister remains undamaged and does not become clogged. If the canister tip does get clogged or becomes damaged, either remove the clog or throw the damaged container away and purchase a new one. Simply following these safety tips and steps will ensure that your fuel stays safe and that you always have it on hand when you need it.
