GSA LAUNCHES NEW PROGRAM

The General Services Administration and the Obama Administration recently announced a new program called "Business Breakthrough" that is aimed at simplifying Federal Contracting and making it more profitable for a previously disadvantaged group of Contractors. We recently caught up with Kevin Chace, President of Nu Cen-tury Inc a company which specializes in marketing to the Federal Government. Mr. Chace's company, Nu Cen-tury Inc., helps businesses secure GSA Contracts and then further aids them in their efforts to negotiate the tricky process of Federal Contracting.

We asked Mr. Chace of Nu Cen-tury Inc, if he had any information on the new program and what it might mean to Contractors. "While the details are still coming out, it appears that the program will be a major help to companies that are too large to qualify for small business designation, yet not large enough to successfully compete with the real giants of Federal Contracting," said the Nu Cen-tury Inc. boss.

If you check out the new web page www.gsa.gov/businessbreakthrough you can see the outline of what the new program will look like, but not much in the way of details. "They say right on the GSA website that the details will be filtering out over the course of the 2011 fiscal year, carrying over into 2012 before the program is fully implemented. It looks like they will be test-marketing a few cities as early as May though," added Chace.

But even if the details are not yet available, this looks to be an exciting new venue for a sector of the Federal Contracting market that may have previously been shut out or limited by traditional set-aside priorities. Of course, no one can be really sure of the impact until the program is laid out in full. "Nu Cen-tury Inc. will continue to monitor these developments with the GSA and we'll know the full picture at some point late in 2011," concluded Chace.
