Gaining Motivation In Personal Goal Setting
Every day you either move closer towards achieving a goal or you move further away from the goals that you have set
. It all depends on the motivation you feel to complete a particular goal.
If you take specific steps you can be assured that you are moving towards your goal. If you do nothing you are moving away from the goal. Following these steps will help motivate you to work towards your goals everyday.
First, envision what you want to achieve. In this step, you should dream big.
Remember that you can't move towards a goal unless you have a clear idea about what that goal is. What you envision must be specific.
In order to realistically reach your goals don't simply state what you want, but decide what you want to change. Picture what it will be, how you will accomplish it, and why it will be better.
Two, spend time seeing yourself succeed in the things you want to accomplish. As part of gaining a clear picture of your goal, visualize yourself achieving your goal on a frequent basis.
Get as detailed as possible in your mind, even taking the time to write down your goals in significant detail. One of the best examples of this is basketball.
When you go up for the shot, players are told to envision the ball going in the hoop. Studies have shown that players who do this are more likely to have better shooting averages.
Third, be excited about achieving your goals. Take into consideration how you will feel when succeed. What will it be like? How much joy will you have? How will you celebrate your feat?
Try to make the level of pleasure as deep and realistic as possible as this will help motivate you toward achieving your goals. The more pleasure you associate with achieving your goal, the easier it will be to get out of your comfort zone and achieve that goal.
You can also choose rewards for yourself when you achieve a goal so that you will gain a greater level of excitement and motivation when it comes to goal setting.
Fifth, be motivated to work on your goals everyday. Even if it is just something small you can work towards achieving your goals.
If you don't put yourself in a situation that will keep you motivated everyday then you can easily loose sight of your goals. Because of this you need to focus on the little things that will make the biggest difference and will help keep you motivated and focused.
Start by identifying the important activities that you need to do to achieve your goal. Break the goal down into a small number of steps and activities needed to achieve those goals.
Then, choose something every day from this list that you can work on. Commit to doing something everyday.
Even on days when you are busy with other things or tired you already have a list of things that you can work on. Even if it is a simple act it will help you keep your personal momentum moving in the right direction.
Sixth, keep your goals in mind. Have a weekly planning meeting with yourself and see how much you have improved in the areas you want.
Not only do you need to have a clear picture in your mind about what you would like to achieve in your goal you also need to keep that goal at the front for your mind.
There are many ways that you can keep yourself reminded about your goal. One motivator and reminder is creating a storyboard with photos about what you want to achieve.
Another idea, is to write a list and keep it by your bed so you can look at it each morning and night. You can schedule reminders in your phone or electronic calendar to give you reminders throughout the day.
Have the reminders keep you focused on the goal you want to achieve. Also, you can make a game, like bingo, with different stages of your goal. As you achieve the different parts you receive a different reward for your good work.
While these six steps are simple, they are very rewarding and can help you to stay motivated throughout your life. Goals are an extremely important part of life and you should always work towards becoming better than you were the day before.
