Galveston Pleasure Pier
The Galveston Pleasure Pier is a $60 million dollar venture by Landry's Inc
. owner Tilman Fertita. With plans to open the pier on Memorial Day, May 28th, Fertita intends the pier may rival Coney Island's Luna Park, Chicago's Navy Pier, and the Santa Monica Pier. The 1,200 foot pier is based on 25th and Seawall at the original site of Flagship Hotel that had been ruined by Hurricane Ike in 2008. The pier will have 16 rides and will possess the tallest ride in Texas. Of the sixteen rides offered some of the remarkable highlights include things like a 200 foot high swing system (the tallest in Texas), a 100 foot tall Ferris wheel having programmable LED lights, a 100 foot top to bottom lift up metal coaster, and multiple rides which will lead out over the Gulf of Mexico.
The Galveston Pleasure Pier is getting enhanced for the 3rd occasion during the gulf shore city's history. The primary variant was on the foundation of the existing pier and was dubbed the Electric Park. The Electric Park was developed as "The Coney Island of the South" and was launched in 1906. The recreation area was open up for 9 years just before getting shattered from the 1915 Galveston hurricane.
The subsequent iteration of the park started out as a leisure pier for armed service families at the time of World War II. At the result of World War II it had been switched over to the city whom consequently designed the pleasure pier. The pier had been stuffed with midway games, an aquarium, amusement rides, and an arcade. This subsequent variation of the Galveston Pleasure Pier lasted almost 20 years before getting destroyed drastically by Hurricane Carla in 1961. In relation to the danger of a natural disaster doing damage to the third version of the park Fertita declares, "That's why you pay high insurance premiums"
The Galveston Pleasure Pier will be open 270 days a year similar to the Kemah Boardwalk itinerary. Landry's Inc. states that the entertainment pier will have 3 million tourists each year. The pier will place a retail center given the name Shops at Pleasure Pier combined with the state's first Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant. A parking lot will be situated to the west of Fish Tales, a Landry's owned restaurant. The Historic Galveston Pleasure Pier will appeal several age groups and joy seekers alike.
