Gampel Pavilion Tickets - Hartford Hoops Entertain In January

Connecticut residents and visitors who don't think there's much to do around New

England in the wintertime haven't seen what's in store for the city of Hartford during the month of January. The first month of the new year brings the heat to the hardwood as UConn basketball teams take their competition to the free throw line, and the sizzling action is almost enough to melt the snow in Connecticut this winter.

College basketball is the name of the game for Hartford this winter, and it doesn't get any better for Hartford hoops fans than it is during January, as the month features all kinds of showdowns for the University of Connecticut Huskies men's and women's basketball teams. Two consistently-ranked and nationally-recognized basketball programs, both the UConn men's and women's basketball teams are ready to prove their worth this month in some of the biggest basketball matchups in the NCAAs.

The big buzz around Hartford this year is the UConn women's basketball program, as the lady Huskies have been the No. 1 ranked team on the AP poll for all of December. Led by junior forward Maya Moore, senior center Tina Charles, senior guard Kalana Greene and sophomore guards Tiffany Hayes and Caroline Doty, Connecticut's women's basketball team is on fire this year, posting an undefeated record through mid-December.

UConn women's basketball fans who don't want to miss the biggest game of the month can get Gampel Pavilion tickets to the Huskies' Jan. 16 game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Another top-ranked team on the AP poll, the Fighting Irish will give the lady Huskies a run for their money when the two teams meet on the basketball court at Gampel Pavilion. If the Huskies can stop Notre Dame's Skylar Diggins, Becca Bruszewski and Lindsay Schrader, they have a shot at staying undefeated through January.

While UConn's women's basketball team is a force to be reckoned with on the NCAA basketball scene this year, don't discount the men's basketball team from this excitement, either. The Connecticut men's basketball program has also been a looming figure on the AP polls this year, as well, and the Huskies have had an incredible season so far on the court.

On Jan. 20, the UConn men's basketball team will challenge the St. John's Red Storm to a duel at Hartford's XL Center, and college basketball fans will flock to the venue to watch Jerome Dyson, Kemba Walker and Stanley Robinson work their magic on the basketball court. The Huskies are in a rebuilding year after losing Jeff Adrien, A.J. Price and Craig Austrie to graduation and Hasheem Thabeet to the NBA after last season, but with a new crop of talent, UConn is again a basketball powerhouse worth watching courtside.

The team's Jan. 20 matchup against St. John's will prove a challenge as the Red Storm has been on a winning rampage lately, and, like all other college basketball games, tickets to this much-anticipated matchup and many more Huskies games this season will be available online.
