If you have a desire to build a business that runs itself, one of your goals must be to automate your marketing. One big part of that is to bring 50 - 80%+ of your leads from the internet. This obviously meant that you have to get on the first page of Google at any cost - because that is where the online battle is fought and won. Now, if you are too cheap to use pay per click, you are going to have to do it the hard way - creeping up the search engine ladder until you get to the top. Well, I want to inform you that getting on the first page of Google is not as hard as it seems. As a matter of fact, I was able to do it in less than 8 weeks. I know you are probably thinking that I paid someone, or that I pulled some black market trick to do it. Well, I am too cheap to pay the $499 a month to have someone else do it, and I am too dense to figure out the technical tricks. So I just did it the old fashioned way...I earned it. Here is what I did in detail - and what you can do too: 1. I picked the best key words, that had good traffic, but low to moderate competition. I didn't go after the major keywords, because the "big boys" with the big bucks have dominated those. I just picked the ones that pertained to me. And if you did not know - there are many keywords that customers are using to find you, that have a lot of traffic, but that low to moderate competition. These are the words you need to go after. If you are wondering where you can find information on keywords - you can get this information for FREE with the Google Keyword Tool. 2. Then I changed the content on my site to be centered around those keywords. I changed the main sections that Google looks at when judging how relevant your site is. I changed the: meta title (the title behind your website).

internal anchor text (pages in the site linking to other pages in the site).

3. I started building high quality links to the site. Google chooses what websites to put first based on relevance, authority (and popularity). And it judges this by the amount of other people linking to your site. All I did was to create a lot of content that I distributed throughout the web - and I instantly got links. Here is what I did: Established Web 2.0 sites (Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Squidoo, Hubpages, etc.).

Got listed on high ranking business directories.

Wrote blogs for 3 blog sites.

Wrote articles with anchor text (my keyword linking back to my site) and distributed them to hundreds of article sites.

Posted comments on Yahoo Answers - got voted best answer a few times.

Bookmarked my site and blogs (using 15 different bookmarking sites like Delicious, Digg, Stumbleupon, etc.).

Posted a few answers on high ranking blogs and forums.

And, I asked a few high ranking sites to exchange links with me (I trusted those I asked).

Next thing you know, I went from page 5 or 6 to page one - and on some I am #1. Now I know it sounds like a lot, but I just did a little bit everyday. And you can too. So if you want to automate your marketing - just use the steps above and get yourself on the first page of Google. Then you can have a stream of customers beating a path to your door.
