Earache is often caused by fluid that has build up in the ears due to some infection
or it might also be caused due to the pressure that is build up in the middle ear. The pain might be of varying degrees according to the severity of the infection. Some experience slight pain whereas in some cases the pain becomes unbearable.
Earache can even affect infants and they exhibit the signs by persistent crying and tugging of the ears. The main reasons for earache in kids is brought on by water from bathing, soap or shampoo storage, or might also be caused due to ear canal discomfort from cotton buds.
There are many home remedies for earache which are quite effective. Holy basil leaves are a good home remedy for earache. These leaves should be crushed and the juice extracted. Pouring two drops of this juice can help in getting relief from persistent earache.
Warm garlic oil also has medicinal properties that give instant relief from earache. One huge bulb of fresh garlic should be covered with sufficient olive oil and warmed for an hour. This herbal oil should be strained through a muslin cloth and stored in a sealed bottle. Care should be taken to warm the oil before pouring in the ears.
Chamomile flowers are also a good home remedy for earache. In boiling water, two to three teaspoons of chamomile flowers should be immersed for ten to fifteen minutes. After straining the water, these flowers should be placed in a cloth and used as a compress near the ears.
Excessive earwax also causes earache. An effective remedy for this is to put a capful of hydrogen peroxide in each ear and let it to set for a minute or two. It should then be allowed to drain off.
A hot water bottle should be wrapped in a towel and used as a compress during intense pain and throbbing in the ears.
