Education is an ongoing lifelong process for many people and because of their outlook they relish any opportunity to learn about new subjects or become more accomplished in subjects they may have already studied.
Regardless of age, whether still in school or an adult learner, there are many ways of absorbing and understanding a subject in an engaging and productive manner. Adult learners should establish the method most appropriate to them before undergoing any course of study. Traditional home-based study is favoured by many as it gives them total control over scheduling their learning, allowing them to manage other responsibilities such as work and family. However, it can be a one-dimensional way to learn as there is no immediate interaction with teacher, lecturer or professor.
Thankfully, modern technology allows for a multitude of learning solutions, including interactive classroom teaching offering an alternative for those who find they do not have the discipline to study at home. Indeed, classroom study using interactive whiteboards delivers an education experience that helps promote retention and understanding of the salient facts.
An interactive whiteboard (IWB) is a screen that can deliver a totally multimedia experience. Replacing traditional blackboards and whiteboards, IWBs add front projection and interactive computing capability to their non-interactive predecessors. Instead of using a series of separate tools such as computers, projectors, video or DVD players and a whiteboard which are difficult to integrate,
interactive whiteboards combines the capability of all to provide a pleasurable integrated educational experience.
For lecturers and those who need to deliver teaching and other classroom experiences interactive whiteboards provide the opportunity to build engaging content, and deliver self-contained learning experiences instead of having to co-ordinate the delivery of OHPs and media players from facilities department. This means they can spend more time concentrating on perfecting their delivery, rather than worrying about what equipment is available and whether it will work.
Other technological developments in learning also include the development of interactive content delivered via mobile devices and over the internet, allowing people in a number of different locations to study together; sometimes from opposite sides of the globe.
Understanding and the ability to absorb information are keys to any learning experience. By delivering classroom experiences that involve interactive content and contributions from students the whole experience is more rewarding, not only for students but also for their teachers. The 21st century is certainly providing more educators with the tools to do just that!About the Author:
