Get Some Marketing Advice When Starting A Flower Shop
When opening a flower shop there are many things to do
, and one very important area is the marketing of your business. This simply means that you need to encourage existing customers to return and purchase again, and you need to attract new customers to purchase your goods and services. There are many different ways of doing this and some of them can be quite fun. Try and do one marketing thing every day - something that will promote your business to either existing or new customers.
If you want to be a successful florist then your goal will be to be the number one florist in your area. To strive to be No. 1 you need to know your competition. Educate yourself. Visit your competition and see how they promote themselves. Look for their strengths and weaknesses. Be aware of any promotions they do. And see if you can identify a particular type of customer they attract.
Also get to know your catchment area. What is the population of your community? Are they predominantly older people, business people, small families, etc? All these things are important in your marketing and communication with both existing and potential new customers.
Also make a note of your point of difference. Why would your customers prefer to shop with you? What do you do that encourages an existing customer to reorder with you? What can you provide that your competitors don't?
Get to know your customers personally. Phone or email some of your existing customers and ask them if they were happy with the flowers that were sent recently. Offer them say 15% off their next purchase. Building a relationship with your customers often makes it an easy choice for them to purchase from you again next time.
Give out your business cards to those passing by your shop. Often these cards will be kept until someone wants to order some flowers.
Write down some ideas for a website. Just some notes. And give this to a friend or nearby business for them to develop a simple website for your business.
If a marketing project (like getting a website up and running) seems too big to handle, break it into small tasks and just do one task each day. Before you know it you will have the whole project underway and near completion. You will gain confidence from doing this and be able to handle larger projects and tasks later on.
When you are starting your flower shop, ensure that your business stands out. Provide the best customer service, go out of your way to have a happy, relaxed relationship with your customers and get to know your neighbourhood. Visit other businesses such as a local hairdresser and maybe place a vase of flowers on their reception desk each week in return for your business cards being available to their customers. Show people you are a professional and that you are top of your trade!
