Get The Golf Equipment You Really Need
It is quite easy to go overboard when buying golf equipment
. The gadgets and equipment can be overwhelming for a beginner. There are two good reasons not to rush out with an open wallet. The first reason is that a beginner does not need to latest and greatest in the golf world. The second is that you may find you don't really love golf as much as you thought you would - and you don't want to waste tons of money on dust-collecting stuff. Buy only the basics that you need, not all the cool stuff you want.
You only really need the wedgers, irons, putters, and drivers. Make sure that you know which club is which, and what they are intended to be used for. An assistant at your local golf shop can help you find a set that is good for your body type and stance. Consider renting or borrowing clubs while you honestly gauge your actual interest in the sport - will you be playing often or will it be a once in a while kind of thing? Many golf shops offer hand me down golf sets, which are fantastic for beginners. Begin with a basic set until you get the feel of the game. Of course, your budget will also have to come in to play. You should also consider a bag for your clubs. Consider whether you want a bag with a trolley - you may not always hire a cart or get a caddy, and lugging a golf bag around all day can put you off the game for life! Your local golf store should have some deals for beginners or used sets.
You will need good shoes whether or not they have cleats. Some courses are strict and won't allow cleats. You'll be walking miles in these shoes, so make sure you like them. Golf courses also have dress codes, so you may need to get an outfit as well. First consider how much course time you plan to spend. You may only need one pair of golf pants and two shirts to begin with.
A new rule book is a must because all of golf's rules will confuse a novice. You must learn the essential rules and etiquette before playing.
You will, of course, also nee golf balls. Again, if you are a beginner, you should not buy the most expensive golf balls in the store. You will lose many balls in the first few months, and you'd rather lose cheap balls than pricey ones. Also purchase tees, a towel, a green marker, and a pencil.
Other gadgets aren't necessary. There are many golf 'toys' available - very few of them are really necessary to play the game, and even fewer of them make you play better!
