Friday nights are a special time at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Called Friday Night Drags, it is a chance for new and amateur drivers to come show their stuff and compete against one another.
It is a street style series; anyone with a vehicle and a valid driver's license can join in on the fun. There are usually over two hundred drag racers and almost one hundred show cars that want to try their hand at the eight-mile span on the speedway.
The event is less than ten dollars for spectators and only twenty for those who wish to compete, so it is a budget friendly activity that your entire family can participate in. There is also a vehicle show that others can enter for prizes; the cleanest and shiniest ride wins.
This is probably the most popular attraction at the site each week. Over five thousand fans show up each Friday night to take place and witness the drags.
Therefore, if you wish to get good seats where you can be right up in the action, you may want to show up early or right at six-thirty when the gates open. During the summer months, Thursday Thunder is an exciting attraction in Atlanta.
It is a nine week competition that is five dollars or less for spectators to come watch. Drivers, as young as eight, are able to compete in the different races, according to their class and experience level.
There are also raffles, contests, and multiple activities that you and your family can enjoy. Those that want to be in on the action or feel like a real driver can take advantage of classes all year round.
Whether you wish to be the wingman or the one behind the wheel, there are seven different companies that sponsor driving schools at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. You can feel like a professional and race up to one hundred and fifty miles per hour around the oval track.
This is obviously only available to those that are experienced drivers and have a valid license. The costs from company to company vary, but it is a great way to feel an adrenaline rush.
Though the types of events at these venues are usually portrayed in a bad light, they are a perfect way to spend a family vacation or weekend adventure. Next time you are in Georgia, look up an event at the Atlanta Motor Speedway; you will not be disappointed!
