The world of game shows on basic cable is very limited these days. Many of them have taken the form of reality shows, which are essentially game shows in which people put their dignities at stake in order to win dysfunctional love. If your idea of a game show only includes games of knowledge or luck, then you might want to bring GSN (Game Show Network) into your home with satellite TV.

GSN has single-handedly brought back classic games such as Press Your Luck back from the dead. Press Your Luck has been revived through the new edition called Whammy! The All New Pres Your Luck. Filling the places of host and announcer for Peter Tomarken and Rod Roddy are Todd Newton and Gary Kroeger, respectively. For the most part, the format of the show remains the same, although die-hard fans of the original will notice a few minor differences. However, the thrill remains in that landing on the Whammy will wipe out all of your winnings.

Another revived classic on GSN is The Newlywed Game. This classic game tests newlyweds' knowledge of each other (or lack thereof) was best associated with host Bob Eubanks and the famous euphemism "making whoopee." The show was recently revived on satellite TV in 2009 through sponsorship by eHarmony.com, hosted by Carnie Wilson. The rules remain the relatively the same in that in the first round, asking wives to answer questions about their husbands that were asked while off stage and vice versa. One format change is that an extra question known as the "eHarmony Dimension Question" has been added, based on the 29 dimensions used by the site to match up couples. Another progressive change that can be seen in the current version of the show is the appearance of same sex couples on the show.

You can also catch more recent original game shows like the popular Deal or No Deal and a classy new show hosted by none other than Jerry Spring called Baggage. The idea behind Deal or No Deal is a process of eliminating 26 briefcases containing predetermined values one-by-one until they reach an amount that they consider to be a "deal." The game continues hypothetically after the deal has been chosen to see if they contestant could have gotten a better one.

Baggage is a dating show on satellite TV that runs on the premise that everyone brings baggage into their relationship. The format of the show includes one dater and three potential dates, between whom the dater has to choose to go on a date with. As baggage and personal flaws start being revealed when the dater starts opening up suitcases, contestants risk elimination delivered in the phrase, "I'm sorry, but you have too much baggage."

GSN is also the home of casino games like blackjack and poker. High Stakes Poker, hosted by Gabe Kaplan features a recurring cast of usual suspects throughout the season who risk hundreds of thousands of dollars in this amateur competition. You can also watch the World Series of Blackjack, a televised blackjack tourney made original by GSN.

Tune into GSN to watch these game shows and more!
