It is also a major port, the busiest on the east coast, and the third largest in America with separate terminals for container, bulk cargo and rail traffic, as well as passenger ferries.

Most of the city's roads are laid out in a grid pattern which is an iconic feature of the city's culture, but the roads are jammed daily, presenting a major challenge to the courier companies which commit themselves to serving every neighbourhood.
