In your research, you will probably stumble upon Italian furniture. That's because the Italians really are leaders in all types of furniture, and modern as well. In general, the Europeans have a certain sense in the way they design pieces. They are well balanced, well proportioned, and extremely good quality pieces of furniture that can enhance any look in any home.

If you're looking at decorating your home in the modern design scheme, you have to remember certain rules that work with it. Basically, you are looking to keep things to a minimum. That is quite often a given with such a design scheme. Don't over do your decorating with small trinkets and such. Instead, opt for one big piece that will set the stage.

Another thing that is quite distinctive about a room decorated in a modern look is the fact that the lines can be very low. This has to be broken up somewhat in order to provide interest and more comfort in the room. So, if your couches are low and the tables and such you will have way too many horizontal lines. Bring in something tall in order to break it up.

This can be a large plant, a wardrobe or what have you. It can also be a large mirror or framed art. Either way, it will create that vertical necessity within the space and make it much more intriguing.

Try to follow all the design rules when you are creating this particular space. In order to make it interesting and intriguing, you have to have different types of textures, patterns, and the like. You also have to balance out your room. This is very important and can be done by bringing in extra furniture or certain accessories. What's important is that you take a step back and look at your particular space as you furnish it.
