Getting In To Winter Sports In Courmayeur
As you arrive on your Geneva to Courmayeur transfer you will head into the heart
of this northern Italian town that has retained all the charm of its roots as an old Italian mountaineering village. Situated at the foot of Mont Blanc, just over the border from France, it is a small but lively village and a hotspot for Italians who want a short getaway. It has also developed into the place to "see and be seen". As a result, this lovely village has a wonderful vibe and great atmosphere; the service and amenities are top notch but still reasonable, but you need to book at table at most of the restaurants, even for lunch.
But the "cool" quotient of the village is just one reason to make the Geneva to Courmayeur transferthere's also the presence of the100 kilometres of pistes that surround you.
Skiing
When you first arrive into the village after your Geneva to Courmayeur transfer, you may not immediately be able to see the slopes to which the village gives you accessbut there are plenty of them. While the beginners may not be entirely comfortable on many of the slopes, there certainly are a few that cater to those who dont feel all that secure on their skis. For those who feel they are ready to hit the intermediate slopes, there is a good selection of reds to test your skill and get progressively better. And for those who thrive on adrenaline, there are quite a few off-piste routes as well as the infamous Vallee Blanche route that offers a unique challenge and requires a guide to take you down.
Snowboarding
If on your trip from Geneva to Courmayeur, transfer time has allowed you to contemplate the possibilities of snowboarding instead of skiing, go right ahead. There are quite a few intermediate areas that will give you a chance to give it a go. If you are feeling brave (or are already very experienced), head up to the glacier route. Starting in the French town of Chamonix, it affords boarders a dramatic 2700 metre drop over 20 kilometres. Half way down you can stop at one of the huts for a coffee before deciding whether you want to take the tough or easy routes back down.
Cross country skiing
Available from November and all through the spring, the cross country trails in Courmayeur are well groomed and offer a great opportunity for a change of scenery and a chance to use some different muscles after all that downhill skiing. Take advantage of the three, five, ten, fifteen and twenty kilometre trails to explore the areas that surround the resortall of which begin in Planpincieux.
