Getting On Your First Horse

The sport of horse riding has become extremely popular in the UK and it is easy to see why

. There are now believed to be over 4 million people involved in riding in Britain, some of them professionally, but many just for fun. There are lots of reasons why people decide to try their hand at horse riding, from simply wanting to have a go at a new sport, to keeping fit. Whatever the reason for getting involved initially, the majority of people who have a go find it a very rewarding experience.

If you have never been on a horse before, then probably the best way to get started is by going to an approved riding centre and having a taster lesson. Because safety is such an important part of horse riding for obvious reasons, going through a professional stables is the best option. It will ensure that you learn with people who know how to ride safely and can offer you the best introduction to the sport. They will make sure that not only do you have the right equipment, but you also feel comfortable with the situation.

Learning to ride and getting on a horse for the first time can be a very daunting experience and so doing it in a safe and structured environment will certainly help put your mind at rest. If it so happens that horse riding isnt your thing then at least you can say that you had a go and then simply walk away. On the other hand, if you cant wait to get back on a horse after your first go, then a riding school offers the perfect way to get into the sport without having to spend a lot of money.

If you have been riding for a while then you might be getting to the point where you are considering purchasing your own horse. Make sure you think about this very carefully before committing as owning an animal is a huge responsibility and not one that should be taken lightly. As well as the time you will need to spend looking after and exercising your animal, you also have to think about how much it will cost and whether you can really afford to look after a horse properly.
