Getting Rid Of The Musty Smell

One of the most common pieces of clothing articles that usually gets that musty smell the fastest are towels

. This is because we use this piece of clothing every day, thereby making the towel damp and moist when we use them again the next day. Of course, the most sensible thing to do is to dry it up under the sun but in these times where almost all people are in competition to rush and juggle a lot of things, that kind of chore is often left unattended and even ignored. Usually, the tendency of busy individuals is to leave the wet towel on their bed and hastily dress up for work.

What is even worse is when we mix the moist towel to our other clothing in the wardrobe. While the other clothes may be clean and dry, the musty smell on the towel will spread in the closet and before you know it, you have a closet of clothes that smell of molds and mildew. How do you get rid of the musty smell then? Heres how.

The first thing to do is to hang the musty clothes on a clothes line outside your house on a warm, sunny day. This will dry up the moist and the musty smell and leave your clothes at least in a clean, sunny scent afterwards. When youre done leaving the clothes outside for some hours, you may take them inside for washing. At the stage of the cleaning process, you can use an ordinary detergent to wash the clothes or a special must-removing product.

This process is only advisable if the clothes that acquired the towels smell are not old or delicate. Vintage clothing may need special procedure to get rid of the musty smell. If the garment is high-valued, you may want to take it to a clothing specialist to personally get rid of the musty smell without compromising the quality of the clothing.

Using very harsh detergents to spin special dresses with musty smell is not recommended though. While musty smell towels can be washed using that kind of fabric detergent, the same is not true for delicate clothing like wedding dresses, military uniforms, and antique costumes. The chemicals may ruin the garments and could also damage the delicate fabric.

When the musty smell is already gotten over and done with, be sure to take precautionary measures to prevent it from reoccurring. Constant vigilance in cleaning the closet, the washer, and even the clothes themselves is imperative. Do these and youd certainly never have a towel smelly and musty ever again!
