, you have to know the basics, what to look for and where to start. You can't just buy a turntable and turn into DeadMau5, it unfortunately doesn't work that way. (Though a cool helmet while you DJ is always a popular choice!) You need to make sure you have the right audio equipment and setup.

Every DJ setup needs a few things to really be called just that. The basics are: 2 turntables, 1 mixer, 1 pair of headphones and 2 speakers. Of course, the most important elements are the turntables. They are the key to the entire show. A microphone is also important to have, for the obvious reason of communicating to your listeners and getting them pumped up!

The most common turntable varieties are vinyl, CD and digital. Of course, all three are blending well with today's technology. Time coded-vinyl gives the feel of real vinyl but the quality of digital. MP3s can be burned onto CD for a CD turntable. And purely digital can be a very easy way to organize and have playlists and mixes ready.

Then you need to look at mixers, which bridge the two turntables and allows you to hook up headphones to them and control the sound. It allows you to create music that sounds completely different and add different sound effects. When choosing a mixer, you want to invest in one that is really going to last you, but don't make it the most expensive part of your setup. Just make sure it can properly connect the rest of your DJ pro audio equipment.

The headphones you choose are all about personal preference, but they are a huge part of your DJ pro audio shopping. The headphones may be, arguably, the most important piece for some because it's all about quality sound and durability. They are a pretty sacred part of the whole experience, so take your time and choose well.

Speakers are the last item to look at and the process here can be long and arduous. But for now, start out with what you have. Computer speakers work well when you are just starting out and working on tracks at home. Then move on to buying larger speakers and subwoofers for when you really perform.

Once you get set up with basics, you are ready to charge ahead with making your own mixes and trying them out and possibly even starting to play gigs. It may be some time and cost money before you get that DJ setup you really love, but the basics will see you through for the time being.
