Getting Your New Person Started Right! The Evaluation Process


Getting someone started is absolutely the most critical success for both you and them. Duplication and leverage is why we build a business. Its powerful and if done right can create incredible momentum for the whole team.

What I like to do is to evaluate my new team member based on the skill set that they have and then give them a starting point for building there business. Let's first take a look at the evaluation process that I use, its important to note, this is all about them and not about you, and its all about setting them up for success long-term.

1. How much time do you have to commit?

A. 10 hours per week or less?

B. 10-20 hours per week?

C. 20-30 hours per week?

D. full time?

2. What is your level of internet marketing experience?

A. I am a beginner?

B. I have 1 year or less of experience

C. I have 2 plus years of experience

D. I have 3 plus years of experience

Once this has been completed, we must drill into the levels of experience some. Lets show an example of that here. If your a beginner then the plan is simple.

A. Beginner plan

If your a beginner, then you must use what you have to build your business, which is your current list of resources. Write down a list of 100-200 names, and we would teach you how to become good at inviting. The most common mistake is people want to explain everything, which is a huge mistake. Just get good at inviting. The deliverable will be whatever your company uses. Could be a webinar, a sizzle call, etc., important though to not use your companies corporate website, it just plain old doesn't work.

Your goal from this first surge of activity it to get your business in momentum. Then from there we will slowly bring you into phase 2 of the plan, which is transitioning into tapping into the internet, specifically social media. Then from there take baby steps into spreading out your web to expand into other areas such as seo, and ezine articles for example.

B. 1 year of experience or less

We need to evaluate this, drill into it and figure out what areas your good at, and where you want to expand into next. The goal from the beginning is to present yourself as a leader, and you can start this process from the beginning as Steven Covey would say, start with the end in mind. Know where you are going and how your gonna get there, even if its not completely clear.

Step 1. Evaluate your List, you must list build from the start. My expectation is for someone a year into this should have a minimum of 1000 people that have opted in to an auto-responder with you and your sending them valuable information on a weekly or monthly basis. So First question is do you have a list, and where are you at with it? What are you using for your auto-responder, a-weber?, get response? traffic wave? or something different?

Step 2. Evaluate social media presence. Personally I start with Facebook, it is #2 in the Alexa rankings. So with it being the 2nd highest ranked site on the internet with millions and millions of people and the ability to really target your audience. So do you have a presence on Facebook, what does your profile look like, how many friends do you have, less than 500, if you just answered yes then guess what you don't have a presence, and you are not maximizing its potential to help you and your business.

After Facebook, then of course, twitter is a close second, same drill. Then YouTube, MySpace. YouTube is slightly different but not much. I would look at how many channels you have, how many subscribers you have, how much content you have, how much value do your bring to anyone that visits you.

Step 3 Evaluate your knowledge with regard to automation. Do you have the right tools to make the best use of your time? Personally I have a robot for all social media, don't know what I would do without them. I'm not going to get into specifics here, but we would spend some time talking about this and talking about a budget at this point for your overall marketing strategy.

Step 4 Ezine articles, do you write articles at all, do you know what they are and how to get them populated effectively.

Step 5 WordPress/Blogging. You must have a blog at this level. It runs parallel with everything we have already discussed, the goal is to present yourself as a leader in all areas and that is when attraction marketing takes over.
