Gibraltar A Colony Of Unique Culture
Gibraltar is a huge mass of land that is located to the south of Spain
. The region belongs to the United Kingdom. On one side of it is the Bay of Algeciras (also known as the Bay of Gibraltar) whilst on the other side of it borders the town of La Linea de la Concepcin.
The population mainly consists of British, Spanish and Arabic people, which means you can snack on a lamb pita sandwich for lunch, enjoy an authentic English high tea in the afternoon, and sit down to a hearty seafood paella for dinner. Gibraltar has been British territory since 1704. Ceded forever to Britain by Spain in the Treaty of Utrecht (1713), Gibraltar joined the EU in 1973, under the British Treaty of Accession.
There are plenty of options when staying in Gibraltar hotel or villa. If you are staying at one of these Costa del Sol villas then you can organise day trips to Gibraltar, although it is recommended that you stay for a few days to see everything. It is ideal that you see most sights in Gibraltar but if you can't then you should focus on the main attraction of Gibraltar and that is the Rock of Gibraltar.
The Rock of Gibraltar is huge Rock (monolithic limestone promontory is the complicated term) located off the south western tip of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It towers above the fringe of buildings as it is 426 metres (1,396 ft) high. Since Gibraltar is under British territory, The Rock is crown property of the United Kingdom, and borders Spain. You can go up the Rock in various ways, you can decide to walk, drive or take a cable car which will take you up to the summit - whilst going up you will go past the beautiful St Michael's Cave.
The top of the Rock's upper area is covered by nature reserve which is home to the Famous Barbary Apes. No one is really sure how the wild apes came to Europe and legend has it that were they to leave The Rock of Gibraltar then it would fall to the Spanish. The two most popular explanations as to the appearance of the apes of Gibraltar are that either they crossed via a subterranean tunnel from their native Morocco, or it was British sailors that introduced them having picked them up on their travels.
The Water that that is in between Gibraltar and North Africa is called the Strait of Gibraltar. This is a stretch of water that has played its part in many battles fought and won to control the western Mediterranean seaways, because of this it is an international symbol of solidity and strength, and it frequently features in the world press and media. There are many Islets that dispute whether they are both Morocco and Spain. You could say the Rock of Gibraltar stands guard over the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea.
