If your gite is in the countryside there is often a pool so you can spend time just unwinding. In the country there is plenty of peace and quiet and beautiful countryside right outside your door.

Self catering doen't mean beeing tied to the stove. Most gites have a BBQ so the cooking can be shared. If you want, you can eat out and sample the local cuisine or just buy a ready cooked chicken at the market, some bread, cheese, salad, wine and desert and you have an instant meal.

It is always advisable to do a little research before you choose and area of France. As I have said it is a big country and has many different type of terrain, so befor you start to look for a gite it would be better if you decide whether you want one in a city, in the country, in the mountains or buy the sea. Whether you need a pool or are happy swimming in the local river.
