Despite the fact that granite is so hard and durable, it is still porous. That means that if any liquids or staining agents are left to settle on the countertop, they could work their way into the granite pores and leave deep stains that could be difficult if not impossible to remove. A good granite sealer will help prevent this, and will at the same time prevent any scratching. The granite sealer will take anywhere from two to three hours to dry completely, so it's best not to set anything on top of the countertop until this entire process has been completed. At this time, you could then apply a third and fourth layer of the sealer if you wish.
