Great Tips to Quit Smoking

*** Do Not Quit Smoking! Click Here *** Some people are lucky enough to be able to stop smoking cold turkey. For the rest of the smokers out there, quitting is simply not that easy (and there are good reasons for that). Thankfully, there are many great tips out there so that you can join the millions of others who have successfully quit smoking. First, you need to understand what it is that you like about smoking. If you don't know why you smoke, well then you won't have a very good idea how to quit either! Do you often socialize when smoking? Is it a stress reliever? Does it give you something to do when you are bored? Or do you simply like the "taste" of cigarettes? Make sure you understand "why" you smoke so you can develop healthy ways to meet these same needs. Now, on the flip side, you need to know why you want to quit smoking. Are you tired of spending thousands of dollars a year on just the cost of cigarettes? Are you sick of being sick? Do you have more serious health concerns? Or, are you quitting for a family member? Brainstorm a list of reasons you want to quit. You'll get a lot of motivation from reminding yourself of these reasons. Keep this list with you and pull it out when you are experiencing a craving. Get support from friends and family. Let them know your intentions and that you are afraid that you won't be able to quit. Often people won't tell their family that they are quitting because they are afraid of disappointing them if the relapse. Your support system is there to do just that; support YOU! Let them know exactly what would be most helpful (and not so helpful). If you live with or hang out with other smokers, ask if they will refrain from smoking around you. Maybe they will even want to quit too. Try to avoid things that act as triggers to you and get prepared for the triggers that you cannot avoid. If hanging out with friends in a bar is a trigger for you to want to light up, avoid the bars until you feel like you have your quitting under control. Is drinking coffee a trigger for you? Maybe try switching to tea. Brainstorm ideas for all of your trigger situations. Being prepared with a menu of coping methods will help you get through tough situations. Try talking with people who have successfully quit smoking. By talking with them about the methods they used and how they got through stressful points, you will learn a lot that you will be able to apply to your own stop smoking attempt. Most importantly, you want to remain positive. If you think that you will not be able to quit smoking, you most likely will fulfill this belief. If you have a slip up and smoke a cigarette, don't berate yourself. Many people experience lapses and it doesn't mean that you have failed. Just remove yourself from the situation that led to the lapse and reflect on what you could have done differently. This is great information to use for future difficult circumstances. Don't let small setbacks destroy your chances of becoming an ex-smoker. If you truly believe that you can quit smoking, you will find that it will be much easier than you ever thought.About the Author:
