Green Energy 101

Green energy is a classification which covers all forms and sources of energy that are are known as non-polluting and therefore environment friendly

. Common examples of eco-friendly power sources are geothermal, wind, solar, and hydro sources. Nuclear power can also be classified as green energy because of the amount of energy it can produce with very minimal costs. Nuclear power posseses the two main requirements from an energy source to be considered green, and those are low carbon emissions and little pollution. Many though argue that nuclear energy should not be labeled green because of the dangers it poses like radiation, radioactive wastes and possible reactor meltdowns.

Green energy is mostly considered when it comes to the production of electrical power. The United Nations is the worlds leader in the campaign to promote widespread use of green energy. The UN urges consumers, businesses, and organizations to purchase green energy to help fund the continuous research and development for such resources as well as to reduce the harmful effects of current energy generation processes and also aid lead to their nations energy independence. Renewable enrgy certificates such as green certificates and green tags are also being distributed to allow consumers and business to support green energy and its information campaign.

Other Names

There are other terms that can be used interchangeably with green energy such as renewable energy, alternative energy, clean energy ,clean technologies, non-polluting energy and non-fossil-fuel source. Green energy and green power are also used to refer to electricty generated from green sources. Brown energy, on the other hand, is often used to denote non-green sources.

Green Sources

Green energy covers all natural energy generating process that can produce energy with little pollution such as anaerobic digestion, geothermal power, wind power, small-scale hydropower, solar energy, biomass power, tidal power, and wave power fall. Incineration can also be considered green though many protest of the acidic emissions it produces. There is no energy source that is completely pollution free but green energy generation has reduced its pollutant by-products to very minimal amounts.

Comparison to Brown Sources

Studies show that Nuclear, Hydro, and Wind lead by Biosphere Technology produce farl less greenhouse emissions that all other sources of energy. It is therefore believed that continues use of the said green energy sources can stop further worseing of global warming and might even provide room for atmospheric healing. The World Health Organization claims that out air pollution kills more than 3 million people anually. More deaths are added by huricanes, flooding, and other weather abnormalities caused by golbal warming.

Potentials

Green energy sources generally produce less energy compared to brown sources, but a new gasification processed termed as biosphere technology has been discovered which is believed to have the potential to surpass brwon technologies in terms of energy efficiency. Moreover, biosphere gasification generates green electricity through the very efficient and controlled combustion of solid wastes, thus solving both energy generation and waste disposal problems.
