More young people should take green energy courses as new jobs are likely in the renewable power industry.A report by the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) revealed that thousands of new jobs could be created in Wales if the country takes advantage of its renewable energy resources. The CAT report entitled zerocarbonbritain2030 includes a plan to eliminate greenhouse gases across all sectors in Britain and was produced after consultations with industry experts and academics.CAT external relations director Paul Allen said: "Wales enjoys abundant renewable resources."By moving towards a zero carbon Wales we can create thousands of new jobs, enjoy greater energy security and a more sustainable, dynamic and resilient Welsh economy."Mr Allen stressed that it was vital to train young people through green energy courses as their skills will be needed to meet the demand for employees with the ability to install renewable power technologies."We could be training young people to insulate houses. If we don't do it, we'll be in a perilous position. If we super-insulate houses and train people to do it, we won't be dependent on gas at all," he added. The report calls for a 50 per cent reduction in the heat and electricity used by buildings and this could be achieved if more homes installed ground source pumps and air source heat pumps.Renewable energy technologies are seen as effective alternatives to fossil fuels and are growing in popularity as more homes are looking to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions. An increasing number of tradesmen are being required to take green energy courses in order to learn how to install these appliances as they are likely to lose business to those plumbers and electricians who are more environmentally aware.Paul Allen went onto say Britain should focus on renewable energy as the nation's natural resources are likely to dwindle in the future which could seriously damage the economy."Britain has the gas and oil at the moment but these reserves are declining rapidly and, as we get towards 2030, they will be a small percentage of what they are now," Mr Allen added. The Welsh government said that the report set an ambitious target which should encourage people to see how they can make the most out of green energy.A government spokesperson told BBC News: "The assembly government welcomes this report from the Centre for Alternative Technology which sets out how we can move to a zero carbon society by 2030."Environment Minister Jane Davidson recently launched the national recycling initiative 'Towards Zero Waste'.
