Growing An Orchid Under Artificial Lights

Orchids can brighten up your home and gardens with their natural beauty

. They are popular house plants because they come in an assortment of colors, shapes and fragrances, making them interesting pieces that can delight anyone who loves staring at beautiful plants and flowers.

Like any other plant, orchids have specific requirements when it comes to light, nutrition and water. Knowing the right amount that your orchid variety should receive will help you manage it better. Remember that the amount of light needed depends on the species of the orchid. Usually, orchids thrive in tropical countries, where they receive a lot of sunshine. They often need cooler shades, however, but unless they are given proper care, they are often exposed to the harsh midday and afternoon sun, which can either make their leaves turn yellow or worse, dry the plant up completely.

The more experienced orchid growers can differentiate the varieties that need a lot of sunlight from those that grow better under the shade. Orchid varieties that thrive under shady conditions often have smaller flowers and bloom quite infrequently. Those that usually need a lot of orchid lights, on the other hand, are the varieties that blooms more frequently and would have more flowers than leaves.

To keep the amount of light that your plant receives consistent through the day, you can use a glow light that has a built in timer. This will ensure that your orchids receive moderate amount of light that will not harm their leaves nor will cause them to wither. Normally these glow lights use fluorescent lights that does not emit too strong heat that may be harmful to your orchids.

It is always best to find out information about your orchid plant so that you can determine the right amount of orchid lights it needs to grow properly. You can do this by either finding information from the garden shop where you got your plant, or you can also go online to find out more information about your orchid variety. You can always attend orchid seminars, where you can learn more information about orchid growing. There are other resources, such as the public library, where you can find valuable information that will help you raise our orchid plants better.

In the past, orchids are usually raised by experienced horticulturists, but with simple techniques and equipment like the glow orchid lights, even inexperienced, new orchid lovers can now start their own garden, and enjoy beautiful blooms all year round.
