Guest House Fire Safety: Some Handy Tips
Travelling can be a good way to relax and unwind
, especially if youve been working so hard these past few weeks or months. Going to a new place to see sights, eat good food, experience new things, and take beautiful pictures is a surely a wonderful break, one that you truly deserve.
But of course, just because you are travelling does not mean you can neglect important things like safety, for example. Some people, who check in at hotels, motels, or guest houses, fail to consider the possibility of a fire accident.
Some of you would even be appalled by the idea of having to worry about this kind of thing when you are in the middle of a relaxing trip. It is understandable that the last thing you want to think about is something that could make you worried and tense. However, you must know that this is not to ruin your trip but just to ensure that you are far from danger and you can enjoy your vacation even more.
Guest house fire safety is one of those things that you should never forget to check wherever you have decided to stay for your vacation. Here are some of the things to include in your fire safety checklist.
1.Request a room located in lower floors. Sure, a room located in upper floors would give you spectacular view especially if you are staying in an area located near the ocean, mountains, or even an urban city. However, if you talk about safety, this is certainly not the best choice. In case of a fire accident in the hotel or guest house, it would take you more time and effort to get out of the premises. It would take the same amount of difficulty for fire rescuers to arrive in your room if you get trapped inside it. More time wasted increases risks and dangers.
2.Check for fire safety factors when you arrive at the guesthouse. Look around the floor where your room is located and search for at least two fire exits. See if the place has clear exit signs, preferably illuminated for easy reading. Search for a fire extinguisher in your room or on the floor. Ask if there is a fire alarm installed near your area.
3.Do more checking when you get to your room. Is your room equipped with a smoke detector and fire sprinkler system? Does it have an easy to understand fire evacuation plan posted inside of your door? Check the fire exit routes and keep this in mind so you know where to go in case you hear the alarm go off. If you do not see a map in your room, ask the front desk for it.
Of course things do not end here as you need to know the right things to do in case of a fire. If a small fire starts in your room, you can make use of the fire extinguisher, only if all these three conditions are present: you know how to use this device, you have the right device for that particular fire, and the fire is still small, incipient, and not yet spreading. Otherwise, it would be best to get out of the room and the premises as quickly as you can. Do not forget to notify the people in the area by sounding a fire alarm. Also, keep in mind the escape route you have memorized and look for the nearest fire exit. Never use the elevator during times like this. Take the stairs. Always remember fire safety should never be taken lightly.
