HTC Salsa Provides Unparalleled Facebook Support

The increasing popularity of using smartphones to access Facebook has led many phone manufacturers to consider extending the functionality of their handsets in this area. In fact, Facebook has become such a central part of many peoples' lives that these same manufacturers are now even starting to produce phones that specifically cater towards usage of this social network.

Facebook, like other social networks such as Twitter, has been supported on most smartphones for a couple of years now with either direct interface integration or at least a dedicated app to help you get your fix. Facebook phones will seek to extend this support even further and one of the first manufacturers to get into the 'Facebook Phone' niche is Chinese manufacturer HTC.

The Chacha opts for a messaging style design with a compact QWERTY keyboard beneath its smaller screen but the HTC Salsa instead opts for a much traditional (for HTC at least) full frontal touchscreen physique.

The main feature that instantly sets these phones apart from the usual crowd of smartphones is their dedicated Facebook buttons. This button is not within the interface but is placed on the phone's exterior as an actual physical button, in a similar manner as many music phones will feature dedicated music buttons and camera phones feature dedicated camera buttons. This button can be used to provide you with a faster means of loading Facebook on the Salsa, shaving a good few seconds off the time it takes to find the app via the more traditional method. But this button can be used for other things besides just loading Facebook. For example, it can be used for sharing many things with your online friends.

When you do something on the phone that can be shared on the popular social network, the Facebook button will glow enticing you to share your activities with the outside world. This could be after you have just taken a picture on the phone's camera, found a new website or even just listened to some music on the phone's excellent media player.

The Salsa also comes with support for the Facebook Open Graph API so that all information from the social network that is displayed on the phone's homescreen can be tailored to be from your most interacted with friends, rather than the people you added to your friends list on a whim or to bump up numbers. The Salsa also comes with great support for Facebook Chat, so that you can keep talk with Facebook chums in real time, rather than just being restricted to sending messages or writing wall posts.
