Halloween Haunted Houses - Exciting, Easy, and Profitable

As kids growing up, buying our Halloween costumes was always a big event but nothing beat the thrill of going through Halloween haunted houses

. One of our favorite tv shows even included a group of teenage crime fighters that were forever finding themselves in haunted buildings. Remember the Scooby Doo cartoon series? The show is still a blast today.

Over 40 years after it's inception, it provides us with a line of Scooby Doo toys, movies and an assortment of very popular Halloween costumes.

The haunting of a house dates back thousands of years. Folklore says when a person would die a tragic death their spirit would move on. Sometimes though the ghost will stay and haunt anyone who occupies the premises. Legend says the ghost still recognizes the area as it's own and does not look kindly upon intruders.

The more "modern" version of an inhabited house is loved by adults and children alike. The excitement today is provided by devices and props and the spooky conditions they create. Haunted houses have grown in popularity through the years and the props, although not complicated have become more elaborate.

Electronic fog machines are a good start. They will provide that eerie foggy effect often associated with Halloween night. Add a few tombstones in the yard and you may make everyone uncomfortable before they ever decide to come inside.

Next, you may think about putting a coffin inside the front door. You can dress up as a mummy or some other alarming figure and raise the top as people walk in. What a shiver that would send down someone's spine! This can also be done mechanically.

Another idea would be to hang skeletons and ghosts in discrete locations so people will not see them until they walk up on them. Add a few spider webs, this gets everyone's attention.One of the all time favorites is still one of the simplest to pull off. Have someone sit by the door in a chair, dressed scarily and not moving at all. Anyone walking by will think it is just a dummy. Every so often the "dummy" will reach out and grab a passer. This always provides a jump in ones heart rate!

Finally, find some scary Halloween music and have that playing on the stereo, filling each room with a dark and dreary atmosphere. This is the final piece to your puzzle.

These holiday houses are not only a blast but have become a tradition. All of the props can be rented or made with ease and are very inexpensive. Many civic groups, athletic associations and others have learned to monetize this type of set-up to help their budgets. With the cost being minimal and the short amount of time needed to put together a haunted house, charging even a small fee can be profitable for any organization.

Most people don't end their holiday with just the haunted house though, costume parties have become a tradition and are enjoyable for all ages.
