Hand Sanitizer Dispensers For Schools
Hand sanitizer dispensers are being added throughout schools world-wide as the flu season approaches
. Schools are installing them in order to help combat the H1N1 virus or swine flu. An update was just published by Fluview. According to Fluview, during the week ending November 28th, 2009 the flu has actually declined with visits to the doctor decreasing on average from 32 to 25. Flu related hospitalizations and deaths are also down, but are still high when compared to what is expected for this time of year.
What does this mean for schools nation-wide? Principal Joseph Occhino of Northern Highlands Regional school noted, the number of reported cases at Highlands Regional has declined. With the theory being that the four day Thanksgiving weekend gave everyone an opportunity to rest.
However, concern is still high and that is why schools are taking the measures to prevent flu infection, especially by adding hand sanitizer dispensers to their lunchrooms, classrooms and offices. They are also increasing the space between desks in classrooms whenever possible, and keeping parents and teachers informed on infection and spread of the flu virus, especially the H1N1 swine flu in the school. They are asking that the children who are showing symptoms, such as runny nose, fever, cough, sore throat, chills or fatigue stay home and that the children who are infected do not return to school until the fever has broken for 24 hours without fever reducing medication.
It's important for those who purchase the hand sanitizer to understand how to ensure that the sanitizer being purchased will be effective in killing 99.99% of germs. Generally it is the alcohol in the hand sanitizer that is effective in killing the germs. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) recommends a concentration of 60% to 95% alcohol in a hand sanitizing product. In addition, there's hand sanitizer that does not come with alcohol and has still been proven effective in killing 99.99% of germs. Instead of alcohol the active ingredient is Benzalkonium Chloride.
