Considering this issue, PMHSA in the United States of America spreads awareness apart from making rules and regulations. The organization has clearly defined various terms, frequently used in the industry to avoid haziness in the entire system. Some of the most commonly used terms are:

Hazard It is the characteristic of a material that can potentially cause harm to people and environment.

Hazardous Material A substance or material that poses risk to an individual or environment as a whole.

Hazard Class The risks caused by different products or materials can be different. Materials with similar characteristics are put together in a class and thus the term hazard class.

The terms and standards set by the PHMSA are referred to whenever a decision is taken regarding packaging and transportation of hazmat equipment. In fact, the level of packaging and efficiency of trailer security system is decided on the basis of group, to which the hazmat belongs to. Three defined groups are:

1.Group 1 This group contains products which are extremely dangerous and require most advanced level of packaging. For transporting group 1 products, state-of-the-art shipping tracking system is used for real time updates.
