Has Illegal Downloading Affected The Record Industry?
Sometimes its hard to keep up with all the new music that is being released
. As hard as you try to keep on top of it all there always seems to be that one amazing new song that has just come out, or that fresh new band that seem to have just slipped through the net. Do you not find that at parties there is always that one music buff that seems to just know everything and anything about music trivia within the last 60 years or so. As hard as you try to have proper conversations with them there are always vital things that you seem to have not heard of and you are told that you have not yet lived or experienced music until you have listened to one particular band.
It can be annoying, however how great it is when you can maintain an intellectual music conversation with them and even shock them with your extensive musical knowledge. A problem that I find is that people rely on single downloads these days, that is, they find a song that they like and then download it ignoring the rest of the discography of the artist. The number of times I have trawled through peoples iPods discovering that they know an artist of whom I love and then discover that they have only one of two of their songs is astounding. What happened to the days of hearing a song and then buying the album of the artist who wrote it. Not only would you then discover other new songs but you would also support the artist and give them the recognition that they deserve for writing the hit.
Illegal downloading has ruined this, people now simply hearing a song, and then download it for free. Why pay for something if you can get it for free being the mind-set of most people. The reasoning being that in this current climate there is no need to pay for stuff if you can get away without paying. Even those with usually high moral standards download their music, in the view that there isnt really anything wrong with it, and quoting the line that the record companies get enough money anyway.
The bottom line is however, is that it is stealing. People seem to have forgotten the beauty of getting a brand new album, unwrapping it from the cellophane, flicking through the album artwork and discovering those new, unreleased songs that you have not yet heard.
