Garbage disposal, which is composed of metal blades, is installed under the sink and the drain. It needs cold flowing water to operate and to save more energy. Garbage disposal has two major types namely the continuous-feed and batch-feed disposals. For batch-feed disposal, you have to place first a special metal cover over the drain to let it do its work. On the other hand, continuous-feed disposal works only when you turn on the switch. The food wastes will be forwarded to the septic tank after the grinding process.

Some of the garbage disposal brands are Waste King, GE, KitchenAid, Kenmore and In-Sink-Erator disposals. They vary in prices and quality. There are also garbage disposals which are noisy so beware.

To sharpen the blades of garbage disposal, you have to throw pieces of ice cubes into it while it is operating. Otherwise, if you throw other than ice cubes like silverware, the garbage disposal may get damaged and worst is the product warranty would be void. Also, you have to throw a slice of lemon to get rid of unpleasant smell. And remember to keep the children away from garbage disposal because it has the capacity to harm them.

Garbage disposal is in fact a tool that could help clean the surroundings especially our respective homes. You just have to use this properly and with extra care to get the satisfaction from it. Most importantly, you have to take note that using garbage disposal could actually multiply your annual water usage.
