There are a lot of French talented artists. Unfortunately, because of the language barrier just a few French singers are know overseas. It's a shame. A lot of French singers have great voices, especially if you listen to them with headphones.

If you don't like songs that you can understand remember that some French artists sing in English. However, there a lot of French songs you are really great.

Charles Aznavour

At age 86, Charles Aznavour is a living legend. He began his career just after WW2. He was discovered by Edith Piaf, probably the most famous French singer ever.

Aznavour is really classy. As a matter of fact, he is sometimes called the French Sinatra. He is a prolific songwriter with more than 1000 songs composed in his lifetime.

The Aznavour songs you should absolutely listen to are "La Bohme" and "Emmenez moi".

Aznavour is also respected for his humanitarian work in Armenia where his parents come from.

Edith Piaf

In recent years, Edith was rediscovered thanks to movie called La vie en rose. The performance by leading actress Marion Cotillard was very powerful. As a matter of fact, Cotillard won a Academy Award thanks to her performance.

Of course, you should absolutely listen to Edith Piaf hit called "La vie en Rose" but songs "Non, je ne regrette rien", "Hymne l'amour", "Milord", "La Foule" are also very interesting to listen to.

She was really a star of her time. Her relationship with famous boxer Marcel Cerdan was really a big thing in the different newspaper. However, let's not forget that she had a great voice with incredible interpretation skills.

Juliette Grco

Juliette Grco is a great artist. What's particularly interesting about here is that she is a great example of the bohemian lifestyle of Paris artist and intellectuals of the 20th century.

She also was deeply involved in the cultural life of her era. She met artists like Miles Davis or Jean Cocteau.

That explains why her songs as such deep lyrics. If you don't understand French, you will love her interpretation. Her best songs are about love. Make sure to listen to songs like "Les amours perdues" or "Dshabillez-moi"
