Hearing Impaired Children And Their Marvelous Education
Over 14 million Americans today own hearing loss problems to some extent and this gets in the way of good communication with other people.
The representative of the East Harris County coop for the deaf, a vibrant counselor, will make sure that the Deaf Awareness Week that will be observed from the week of Sept 21 to 28 will be a major hit.
Within some schools of that certain area, a dedicated counselor works with hearing impaired kids. This humble and serviceable woman never bragged about her degree in teaching both the hearing impaired and hearing children, as well as her master's degree in counseling which comes with a certification on special education.
The coop is here to let children from 0 to 21 suffering from hearing impairment, get the good education they deserve, she notes.
Diagnosticians, interpreters, speech pathologists, counselors, advisors and reading specialists make up the coop which is managed by another lady. We are a team whenever we work together, she states.
Teachers coming from different schools also play a vital role, she adds. These are experts when it comes to deaf children and they also know how to use the aides that will ease the process of learning for the kids.
Every single student must be encouraged to grab this program so that they can enjoy its services no matter what degree of hearing impairment they possess.
She abides by the ultimate philosophy of communication which covers everything starting from speech, speech reading, auditory training, simply reading, composition, sign language, finger spelling, gestures, guess work, and body language, depending on the deaf child's needs.
Dealing closely with the family of the hearing impaired kids is a very important facet of the program. Communicating with their children as parents well as understanding what deafness is all about is something that is crucial.
With this program, the parents can learn sign language and the household can get into the various speech and language lessons in the program. The center created the Deaf Awareness Week to enable children with hearing problems take pride of their being.
It is only a disability if they choose to see it in that way. They are children first and deafness is just a part of them. While these are so hard, I still hope to make great changes, she avers.
She shall also run through the devices that are made for those with hearing impairment.
They shall discuss matters like hearing aid materials, tending these and also other forms of hearing measures. The hearing impaired can now hear through sign language.
Sign language is indeed something fascinating. She states that she often tells her students to remember that they have a strong edge if they can still express their message even with their mouths full or hands busy doing something.
In order to encourage better communication skills among the deaf, flashing lights for TV sets and fire alarms as well as closed caption TV sets are suggested.
The local municipal library honors the Deaf Awareness Week by featuring special books and bulletin boards throughout the entire week.
At the library, Deaf Awareness Week is something valued as one of their employees is deaf. She was left without hearing after being diagnosed with spinal meningitis.
She shares that she has become totally deaf thanks to spinal meningitis which she suffered from when she was in Washington. For 30 years, I was able to hear well, but all of a sudden that has vanished.
She said, I did not know how I would manage without my sense of hearing and this made me so afraid.
