Heating Industry Helped By Government Green Schemes

The heating industry should take advantage of government investment in the renewable energy market

, claims the Vailant Group.

Marketing and technologies director for Vailant John Collings told Heating Ventilating and Plumbing magazine that the heating industry can expect to see an increase in demand for its services following the introduction of a number of government initiatives.

John Collings argued that plumbers, gas fitters and electricians will need to update their skills through green energy courses after the start of feed-in-tariffs (FiTs) and the announcement of the Renewable Heat Initiative (RHI).

Receiving the right training on approved electrical courses, gas training courses and plumbing courses will allow businesses and employees to take advantage of an expanding market by proving their credentials to customers, states Mr Collings.

Installation firms will need to gear up quickly and ensure their employees have the appropriate training following a lull in the heating industry during the global economic downturn.

Mr Collings said that European countries are already benefitting from investing in the low-carbon technology market and this is helping them recover from the international recession.

The Renewable Energy Federation has predicted that almost half of Germany's electricity generation will come from renewable sources by 2020 through wind, solar, biomass and onsite microgeneration.

The European Commission's Joint Research Centre states that solar power production has continued to grow at an average rate of 40 per cent over five years, making the European photovoltaic industry worth over 14 billion Euros per year.

Valiant also claim that the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC), a new emissions trading scheme that became mandatory in April 2010, will be positive for the commercial gas industry.

Dave Lacey, Commercial Director of the UK and Ireland at Vaillant, said that the changes would benefit gas fitters looking to take commercial gas courses.

He said: "The CRC initiative can only have positive repercussions for the commercial boiler market. Not only will the scheme encourage firms to reduce carbon emissions, it will also allow them to be more cost effective, enabling them to upgrade to a more energy efficient level of boiler plant.

"This initiative also encourages companies to consider other forms of carbon reducing technology, such as renewables."

The scheme was implemented to combat climate change by reducing carbon emissions and is one of a package of measures to be introduced under the Climate Change Act, in order to meet the carbon reduction targets set for 2050.
