Helpful Tips On Nature Landscape Photography

The urge to document nature is ingrained in all of us

, as is the urge to craft works of art. In earlier centuries, this urge expressed itself as nature studies and landscape painting. The works of Monet and Turner are excellent examples of this fact. The modern incarnation of this fact has been made possible by massive strides in taking photos and editing them. Nature landscape photography is the name given to the photographic documentation of the outdoors.

It is based on displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures, as distinct from, say, journalistic or documentary photography, which are based on capturing the objective, historical truth of a given moment.

Capturing photos of the nature is the part of natural photography dealing with landscapes such as mountain ranges, pictures of the lay of the land, or even aerial photographs. There is a saying that those who photograph war-zones and totalitarian societies work under more strain than mere landscape photographers, but like all sayings, this statement is false.

That being said, you will have to put in at least two ingredients in order to go far in landscape photography. One of these is a camera, naturally, but an expensive camera is no substitute without the following: perseverance and preparation.

Nature photographers regularly spend upwards of 20 hours in snowy conditions for the perfect shot of animals and natural beauties. They trek through arduous climes such as the Gobi or the Sahara Desert to gain that extra edge over all the other nature photographers doing similar things. Landscape photographers are prepared to go the extra mile to stay focused.

Odds are that the pictures you see will have needed up to 2 or 3 hours and hundreds of shots to be taken for each one that makes it into the publication. Spending up to 20 hours in freezing conditions for that perfect picture of that natural phenomenon is hardly unheard of for landscape photographers. Professionals who go in for landscape photography traverse difficult places such as the Gobi or the Sahara Desert to gain that edge over their competitors.

So a fourth ingredient should be added to the list above: vision. This last ingredient is absolutely essential if you want to get your work on the cover of, say, National Geographic. Without vision, you will never elevate the sights you see to the level of great art. Without persistence, perseverance and patience you can not possibly capture the moment.
