Heraford A Vs Bucks A County Pool Report

The idea of a trip to Hereford for our last game of season was a bit of a downer but a fair few of the squad travelled the night before

. When I woke up and drove to the venue I pushed open the door, walked in, hit a ball on a few tables and realised that I had indeed woke up that morning in the Land that Pool forgot.... Apparently there was some kind of village get together in the hall celebrating the introduction of electricity to Herefordshire so the tables were pushed to one side so they could have a little dance...aawwwww.

Onto the pool match itself, we were introduced to a new type of pool, Crazy Pool, a bit like normal pool but much like crazy golf you have to play on wonky surfaces. Half way through the match I was waiting for them to bring out little windmills and other obstacles to put on the tables just to make it a little bit harder but no, they decided that we really could not get to grips of hitting the ball left and it goes right.

A really important match for some of our 'A' team as they were trying for a top 8 in the region and a possible England trial.

First session went to Hereford 6-5 with the wins coming from Scott, Franco, Steve, Stuart and Dan Wilkins, not a great start but we hadn't gotten used to the rules of crazy pool and I suspected we never would. Onto 2nd session and again Hereford took this 7-4 with the wins this time coming from Steve, Terry, Scott and Dan Morgan. 13-9 down and only half way through then it was lunch. I can only describe this lunch as squirrel curry and what resembled chips, a few of us got lucky and caught onto the fact that it was squirrel and opted for cheese and chips which comprised of a bowl of chips with a processed cheese slice sat on top but wait for it...... they then nuked it so the cheese melted into the chips so it gave the chips a plastic coating. This obviously made the chips waterproof enabling you to eat them in the rain, why didn"t we think of that. After the food Hereford wanted to play pass the giant sponge 8 ball to their friends aaawwww playtime in Hereford but at one point, while the bunnies continued their match, the giant ball hit a bunny while she was cueing for a shot..nice, a few sniffles, couple of tears and a "can we have our ball back please" made Hereford happy again, was really heart-warming to see the smile on their little faces again.

Third session went Herefords way again 6-5, I think this was due to the fact that they wouldn"t let us play with the ball. Wins coming from Terry, Scott, Steve, Dan W and Jimmy. My game itself saw a sure fire win for me turn into disaster when I did not allow for the 3 inch roll on the table, a feel stupid now but I wasn"t going to make the same mistake again.

Last session and not a moment too soon and the frustration was building in the team about the 'Pool Tables'. We did eventually win this session 6-5 with wins coming from Scott, Franco, Terry, Stuart, Dan W and Jimmeeeeee but lost the match 24-20, having to give four games away as one of our players failed to arrive, lucky b@*@+rd.

To sum up then I think the mistake most of us made was to actually aim for the pockets when clearly we should have aimed 3 inches to the left/right. This theory was confirmed as our man of match was awarded to Scott Rutter for 4/4 yes that"s right, SCOTT who obviously is off target the most but found his calling when he arrived in Ross on Whyyyyyyy!!!

Joking aside Scott played well except maybe his last frame and thoroughly deserved his tuna flavoured Man of Match award so well done matey. With a 2 out of four for myself and Jimmy and a 1/4 from Dan Morgan our dream of a top 8 in the region looks shattered but Steve Appleby looks certain to go to the trials for the 2nd year running with a 3/4. Well done Steve and good luck from us all at Bucks. If you quit county I will come looking for you!!!!

Congratulations goes to the Bucks 'B' side who look to have secured a Yarmouth spot with a tremendous win over Hereford 'B' and well done Dave 3/4 Larner for his Man of Match ( Had money changed hands?? )

Last but not least a massive well done to all the bunnies... Total domination of region 5 and a special congrats to Emma Cunningham for finishing not only top of the Region but as far as I am aware the National rankings too, absolutely amazing stuff from our wookie.

I personally would like to thank all the Bucks for their support and putting up with me as captain and also for turning up every month and playing their best. For those that are not returning to bucks next season for various reasons, thanks for all your time and hard work. You will all be missed and we wish you good luck in the future.

Don"t forget that the County Trials are on Sunday13th December at the Herald. Good luck to all that enter, I will be there routing for you all.

Up the Bucks
