Here's Why All Emu Oil is Not The Same

The emu oil market evolved in America like no market ever has and it began in the early 1990's

. Because of the incredible results emu oil produces for so many different needs and the fact that it is also all-natural, the promise for market success seemed absolutely guaranteed. A lot of people wanted in the emu oil business and the demand for emu birds became so great that prices sky-rocketed. A pair of emu breeders (one male and one female), could easily sell for as much as 35 to 40 thousand dollars.

A pair of emu breeders can easily produce 20 chicks a year and emu chicks were selling for five thousand dollars EACH. For this reason, more emphasis was placed on the breeder market and not enough effort was put into the oil and product market. Since a pair of emu breeders produce an average of 20 chicks a year, it only took two years for the breeder market to be saturated with birds and in just a few months, the value of a pair of emu breeders fell from 35 to 40 thousand dollars to nothing.

A lot of people had invested their entire savings and retirement funds and more. People began to get out of the industry and were salvaging anything they could. The focus immediately turned to product in hopes of salvaging some of the losses. A lot of emu oil was produced very quickly. Birds were worth nothing for resale so lots of processing was done in order to produce oil BUT since no product marketing had been previously done, sales were dismal at best.

Emu Oil Was Frozen And Stockpiled In The 1990's

At that time a lot of the stockpiled emu oil was frozen and put in storage. As time went on, it deteriorated. In 2007 the demand for emu oil suddenly tripled from previous years and the 2008 demand doubled THAT! Growth of that magnitude creates interest and confusion in any industry and the emu oil industry is no exception.

Any of the stockpiled emu oil that can be found has been sold through marketing ploys such as "triple refined", "molecularly distilled", and so on. Old, inferior emu oil has been sold on the Internet so quality AND prices have been vastly different from almost all suppliers.

Grade B Emu Oil?

Grade B emu oil was introduced to salvage stockpiled emu oil under the guise of pet care and soap making among other things. All normal emu product should be Grade A when it is initially produced, so there is no reason to actually produce a Grade B emu oil. Grade B emu oil will disappear from the market when current supplies are gone because it isn't profitable or logical to lower Grade A emu oil to Grade B.

When all the old stockpiled emu oil is gone, prices and quality will stabilize.
