Maxell has also introduced the re-writable and write once formats in its Bluray media recording disks. Maxell manufactures Blu-ray DVD disks that comprise of dual layer and single layer as well.

The new high performance write-once BD-R disk by Maxell has a single layer which has the ability to hold 25GB information, at a brisk recording speed of 2x. The Maxell write-once Bluray disk (dual layer) can pack huge data amount of 50 GB with 2x writing speed. Maxell also manufactures Bluray re-writable media disks comprising of both single & dual layers. 25 GB information can be written on a Maxell BD-RE media disc and 50 GB data can reside on a dual layered BD-RE DVD disc. The data is written on both the Bluray DVD disks at 2x recording speed.

The new Verbatims dual layer HD DVD disk has the ability to record High definition video of 150 minutes on a single side. This recording is done without stopping and flipping the DVD disk. The dual layered Verbatim DVD disc is capable of holding 30 GB data. The recording of data onto the verbatim 30GB disk is done at 1x recording speed. The dual layer HD-DVD media by Verbatim also supports the copy right protection mechanism of AACS (advanced access content system).
