High School Reunion Fashion And Dress Code
Ten years have passed since you graduated high school and you get an invitation to go back to your high school reunion
. This is your chance to relive your glory days when you were on the top of the heap as the starting quarterback. Or if you are like the other 99.9% of high school students, you get to relive the misery that made you oh so happy to exit high school to get a chance at the tortures of normal life, like paying rent and the bills, instead of having to face daily challenges to your self-esteem.
Children can be cruel, but high school students are a special group of sadists. The teenage years are full of angst, trying to fit in, when you don't even really know enough about yourself to find a place to fit.
You escaped alive! Congratulations. You are ten years older now, with ten years of real adult life experience under your belt, so why do they want you to come back in time to relive the experiences of your adolescent trauma once again ten years later? Basically, because high schools are evil.
There are some of you out there that disagree. You were of course in the 0.1% of the students, the jock that everyone idolized, and that all the cheerleaders where fighting over. For the rest of you men, returning to your high school reunion is your chance to let your previous teenage peers know that you have made it in the real world. This is not a celebration, this is an opportunity for revenge. Revenge takes careful planning.
If you still live in the same town, it is not so easy to pull off the new image of you, since everyone still living in your town has seen you for all the past ten years. Even if you went from the last guy picked for the softball teams in gym class, to the owner of the local hardware store, you really don't have that much to work with. In that case, it is better to dress nicely, be kind to all your old "friends" as if you don't remember being picked last.
Ignore the outsiders and concentrate on the homeboys that are still remaining in your town - especially the ones that can bring you business such as the guy that stayed in town and runs a big construction company with his dad. Use the high school reunion to network with local businessmen from your class and forget about the rest. Revenge that comes in the form of more sales for your business is just as sweet.
If your present conditions are unknown to your previous classmates, because you moved away to go to college, and never came back; this is where you can take the most advantage. You need not be Bill Gates, but you need to dress like you could be. It doesn't hurt if you arrive in a chauffeured limousine, dressed in formal evening wear, even when the rest are only in jeans or at best cheesy suits and ties. Unless you have a gorgeous trophy wife or a girlfriend willing to play the part, go stag. You want the girls that rejected you or worse yet, never noticed you,to finally notice you.
The secret to impressing your friends is to downplay your success. Let them guess about you. This is called "mystique." Be very modest. When asked questions, about where you work or what you do, offer polite but generic answers, such as you manage your investments.
In this case, less is more and you will have all of the local yokels dying to know more about you. Arrive fashionably late to the event and leave early, then go home take off your rented tux, kick back with a few beers and laugh your ass off.
